GUY ANDREWS SHARES STORMLAPSE VIDEO FOR ‘IT CANNOT SURFACE’ – ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM DETAILS

StormLapse aka Chad Cowan is an award-winning photographer, licensed UAV pilot, and filmmaker who has been chasing storms across America’s Tornado Alley over the past 10 years and 150,000 miles. His goal is to capture the awe inspiring beauty of nature in the most extreme and violent weather on earth. His footage struck a chord with Guy Andrews leading to it being used in his new video for ‘It Cannot Surface’ which you can watch here:

Speaking on Chad’s work, Guy comments, “He manages to capture the evolving power of nature and its humbling sense of scale. Nature is an unparalleled force to overpower almost anything that stands up to challenge it. A constantly evolving force which cannot ever be fully controlled; it makes our efforts seem futile when trying to dominate this planet. Mother Earth can exercise huge levels of restraint against human’s intentions to interfere: this is the concept which ‘It Cannot Surface’ is based on.

Influenced by the principals of nature’s power, I decided to create a dynamic element in the composition which has the ability to override what would be key features of a song. I did this by creating a chaotic sea of reverb that drowns the prominent elements of the track – the drums and melody – occasionally letting them rise to the surface for air, only to be submerged once again.”

‘It Cannot Surface’ is taken from Guy Andrews’ new album ‘Tåke’ [Norwegian for “mist” or “fog”]. Released on 22nd September via Houndstooth it is a brooding aural landscape, weaving textures and soaring rhythms with energy and restraint to draw upon the haunting sense of change in our time, and explore the space in which we find ourselves.

Guy Andrews is a London based musician known for creating dark, atmospheric music by combining an array of influences from post-rock, techno and electronica to create expansive cinematic masterpieces. His new album was inspired by his visit to Scandinavia last year.  A cancelled return flight from Norway due to fog left Guy with some time to explore his surroundings.

He comments, “I had some extra time to explore Bergen, the city where I was staying. I ended walking up a small mountain and at the top was greeted by a stunning view of Norway’s fjords – it was such a stark contrast to where I was living at the time that it inspired me to write music that reflects the reward you get from exploring new environments.

Writing ‘It Cannot Surface’, it almost felt like the sounds were being submerged, briefly coming above water for air, then being sucked back down. The drums barely surface from the reverb they’re being drowned in – it was an exercise of restraint.”

Having scored for world-renowned photographer Nadav Kander, as well as collaborating with Massive Attack’s Robert Del Naja in the past, ‘Tåke’ sees Guy Andrews working with acclaimed musician Alev Lenz on the haunting and stunning track ‘The Clearing’ and the sinister and pulsating ‘Feelings’. Her music was recently featured in the final episode ‘Hated in The Nation’ of season 3 of Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror.

The artwork for Tåke features an oil painting commissioned by critically acclaimed painter Jake Wood-Evans, whose recent work is being currently featured in Nottingham Castle Museum & Art Gallery following a solo exhibition in Unit London.
Following his début album last year on Houndstooth with Our Spaces, 2017 has already seen Guy Andrews record at the legendary Maida Vale studio with Masayoshi Fujita for BBC Radio 3.

After a period of writing and producing ambient music under various aliases, Guy Andrews’ eponymous discography includes music for the critically acclaimed Hemlock record label, Erased Tapes and Scuba’s Hotflush, gaining support from tastemakers Bonobo, Massive Attack, Mary Anne Hobbs, Ulrich Schnauss, Max Cooper and Ben UFO.

Gentle Giant’s album ‘Three Piece Suite (The Stephen Wilson Mix) to be released 29th September 2017

Gentle Giant—’Three Piece Suite’ is a specially curated selection of songs and compositions from the band’s first three albums (Giant, Acquiring The Taste, Three Friends) presented in both 5.1 surround sound and stereo. There are nine tracks from the albums, plus a pre-debut song, remixed by Steven Wilson. The choices were determined by the limited availability of multi-track master tapes from the era. Only a few songs from each album are known to exist as multi-tracks, with the rest presumably lost.

‘Three Piece Suite’ is available in the following formats:
*A two-disc digipak containing 96/24 animated Blu-ray plus CD.
*A single disc digipak CD.
*A two-disc gatefold LP in180g high-end vinyl.
*A 95/24 digital download of the CD version.

Gentle Giant’s ‘Three Piece Suite’ includes the songs “Giant”, “Nothing At All”, and “Why Not” from the first album “Giant”. “Pantagruel’s Nativity”, “The House, The Street, The Room” from the second album “Acquiring The Taste”. “Schooldays”, “Peel the Paint”, “Mr. Class And Quality?”, and “Three Friends” from the album “Three Friends” completes the list of the original recorded material. The band and Steven Wilson are including a previously commercially unreleased song“Freedom’s Child”, taken from the first recording sessions with legendary producer Tony Visconti.

The liner notes by interviewer Anil Prasad include reflections from Gentle Giant’s members about the writing and recording sessions. Furthermore, Steven Wilson and Tony Visconti share their incredible observations about the early days of this unique collection of timeless music from one of progressive rock’s most influential bands.

Tony Visconti recounts:
“I was a very optimistic young man in 1970…I thought music like theirs would save the world from mediocrity. I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth in it. I championed their cause by becoming sympathetic to the point where I temporarily joined the band for both albums. I modified their arrangements and pulled off some stunning audio effects that gave their sound more depth and immediacy. The band knew I was on their side. I remember there being a great feeling of camaraderie during the sessions.”

Steven Wilson explains:
“To create the new mixes, I used Logic as the software and Universal Audio plug ins, which provide emulations of classic analog outboard effects, channel strips and old mixing desks…I used these tools to clean things up and bring out some more clarity, detail and definition in some of the instrumental interplay. There was never a question of trying to outdo the original mixes, but offer different perspectives on them.”

Tony Visconti continues:
“In our own way, we’ve touched the ears, minds and hearts of thousands of true believers.”

The band members, collectively, feel there are still good reasons its fans continue to enjoy Gentle Giant’s music and why it continues to be discovered by new generations. For fans of Gentle Giant, “Three Piece Suite” is a must have. For fans of great musicianship and progressive rock this is an incredible insight into the earliest days of this legendary band.

From Ross Wilson:

“So delighted to announce something that we’ve been working on for a while now; Blue Rose Code has signed to Navigator Records and we’ll be releasing new album, The Water Of Leith, on the 27th October 2017. We’ve got an amazing team behind us and I love what we’re going to share with you.

Thanks, first and foremost to the top man, my manager, Sean Devine, for his work in putting this together, to Angus Lyon for co-producing the record with me, and to all of the world-class musicians and engineers who’ve made me sound better across each of the twelve songs;

White Moth Black Butterfly (TesseracT + Skyharbor members) unveil 2nd album ‘Atone’ / Sign to Kscope

Kscope are extremely proud to announce that White Moth Black Butterfly have joined the label’s roster and the release of the band’s new album ‘Atone’ on 1st September.

White Moth Black Butterfly features a team of songwriters & producers based worldwide, all at the height of their own scenes. The members met through working on Skyharborone of India’s biggest rock bands – Daniel Tompkins, vocalist with UK’s premier progressive rock band TesseracT (also on Kscope); New-Delhi based Skyharbor songwriter and producer Keshav Dhar; US based producer and string arranger Randy Slaugh who has previously worked with the likes of Devin Townsend, Architects & Periphery. Randy wrote and tracked string arrangements for Skyharbor‘s second album ‘Guiding Lights’, and as their relationship grew, he was invited in as a third song-writer. White Moth Black Butterfly’s line up is completed by UK singer & lyricist Jordan Turner.

On bringing White Moth Black Butterfly into the Kscope family Daniel Tompkins comments WMBB signing to Kscope is nothing short of a privilege. We feel we have truly found the right home, where we can grow and develop with the help of a respected and hardworking team of people.”

White Moth Black Butterfly are a contemporary pop project with progressive and experimental music at its heart; initially created by Daniel Tompkins as a creative outlet aside from his writing with TesseracT to indulge in his other musical influences ranging from Massive AttackEnigmaSigur RosDavid BowieMichael Jackson to Tool, Dredgand Thrice.  On the evolution of White Moth Black Butterfly Daniel explains “What started out as a creative outlet has blossomed into a fully-fledged musical project. Writing music with Keshav, Randy and Jordan has been an inspiring and invigorating process and one that has allowed us to explore new sounds through contemporary vocal work and organic instrumentation.”

Their new studio album ‘Atone’, the follow up to White Moth Black Butterfly’s 2014 self-released debut ‘One Thousand Wings’; which was recorded across the globe at studios in India, the UK, US and Taiwan, is masterfully built on organic, textured and cinematic soundscapes, with two opposing themes of loss and hope.

Tompkins explains – “Whilst songs like “Tempest” and “Atone” focus on faith and forgiveness, others like “Rising Sun” and “An Ocean Away” linger on love and nostalgia; throwing the listener into a bygone world of having less and caring more. The front cover artwork captures the beauty of nature and the harsh realities of life: power and dominance. White Moth Black Butterfly represents that very same struggle.”

The first song from ‘Atone’ the band are releasing is entitled “The Serpent”, here is a teaser:

Co-singer Jordan explains the concept behind the song – “The Serpent is an exploration of the temptations that lurk within each of us, and the internal fight that we partake in when they arise. The battle between good and evil consciences is fought throughout the song, drawing attention to the cunning games that a tempter can play.”

Atone will be released on CD, LP and digitally (all digital pre-orders receive “The Serpent” as an instant download), all formats are available to pre-order here http://found.ee/WMBB_ATONE

Aethellis To Release “A Home In Your Thoughts”

US symphonic neo-prog band Aethellis will return with what promises to be a smashing 3rd release. “A Home In Your Thoughts” is a brand new 3 track mini album, and is the  highly anticipated follow up to Northumbria the bands last album released in 2011. “A Home In Your Thoughts” will be released worldwide as a digital only release, and should be released late Summer.

In a statement from Aethellis
Aethellis continues its amalgamation of progressive structures, pop hooks and funky grooves with the new collection of songs, A Home In Your Thoughts.

By turns plaintive and inspiring, “A Home In Your Thoughts” is meditation on the persistence of overcoming obstacles, while the joyous, uplifting and powerful “Second Home In Your Thoughts” represents the fruition of that persistence with its multi-thematic epic structure.

“Janice” tells the story of a divorced man attempting to reconcile with his ex, detailing his frustrations, yearning and ultimately his belief in the power of love. Add this to an infectious funky groove that spirals into prog territory in the latter half of the song which includes jazzy riffs and solos and concludes with a variation on the main riff but this time in 5/4 (which is hinted at earlier in the song).

Finally, “Believe In Somebody” is a punchy concise pop/rock offering with prog flourishes and more uplifting lyrics. This song received the Runner Up Award from the 2014 Song of the Year Contest.

This inspiring Aethellis collection could be considered a concept EP about overcoming obstacles by believing in oneself.”
